The Land Rover Range Rover is the flagship vehicle in the Land Rover offering. Since it's inception in 1970 it has been one of the best selling luxury SUV's. Over the years the Range Rover has undergone 3 major revisions and today is an attractive, luxury sport utility vehicle.
The first generation was built from 1970 to 1995, second generation from 1995 to 2002 and the third generation vehicle has been in production from 2002 to present day. Each time a revision was made to the Range Rover, it was more refined than the previous model and offered its buyers the ultimate in luxury, while at the same time having impressive off-road capabilities.
Land Rover has patented its Terrain Response system which gives the driver the ability to adjust the transmission and chassis setting based on the type of terrain under the Range Rover. With Hill Descent Control, Electronic Traction Control and Dynamic Stability Control, the Range Rover handles perfectly no matter the terrain.
Several models have existed and today's most expensive model is the Range Rover Sport, which you might recognize from the earlier Range Rover Stormer edition concept. The Range Rover Sport was developed to take a classic design and make it sportier. Sloping the windshield was one of the major design revisions that helped to achieve this sportier look as well as providing performance enhancements. Powered with a 4.2L supercharged V8 engine made by Jaguar, it puts out a respectable 390hp which has plenty of speed for the highway and power for the trails. A 2.7L diesel V8 model is also available which provides better fuel economy, but only produces 190hp.
For a wealthy socialite, businessman, or a family hauler, the Land Rover Range Rover is an exceptional luxury SUV with few rivals. Not many vehicles on the road today can offer the same level of luxury that the Range Rover offers, while at the same time being quite capable in snow, ice, mud and on rough terrain.
