Land Rover LRX Concept
Late in 2010 the Land Rover LRX concept is expected to become a reality in showrooms across the UK. With bold new styling, this brand new Land Rover is the most revolutionary vehicle that the company has ever produced. It's expected to have a 3.2 liter V6 engine and a 6 speed transmission. With standard all wheel drive, the Land Rover LRX concept will also come with Land Rover's Terrain Response System for exceptional handling, no matter what season or road condition.
One of the most innovative features reported to be in the works for the LRX, is a diesel/electric engine that will run on bio-diesel. For speeds below 20mph, the rear wheels will be powered by an electic engine. Obviously with this sort of innovation, this is the cleanest vehicle that Land Rover has designed to date. To reduce emissions, the LRX will shut off automatically while idling at a stoplight, but will automatically turn on once the accelerator is pressed. This technology is powered by lithiom-ion batteries that charge each time the batteries are pressed or when the car is coasting and decelerating.
Much like the Land Rover LRX concept, it's expected that the production version will have very similar lines. This sleek and aerodynamic design minimizes wind resistance which in turn reduces the amount of fuel used. With the increased CO2 emissions regulations imposed by the EU for 2012, the LRX has been designed to be as efficient as possible. For utility purposes the Land Rover LRX concept includes a drop-down tailgate and a separate liftgate similar to the top of the line Range Rover.
As for braking systems, the LRX will feature 4 wheel anti lock disc brakes which will safely stop the vehicle quickly. Curtain side airbags as well as front side airbags will be standard, further increasing the safety features on this new vehicle. Rear obstacle detection systems, bi-xenon headlamps and a heated windshield are also reported to be on the list of features for the striking vehicle. To add to the dramatic look, standard 18 inch tires are what separates your from the ground, but if you're thinking bigger is better, 19 inch tires will also be available.
